Course Description
This course is designed to give a short introduction to nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Nanomaterials with dimensions of 100 nm and less are already applied by nature e.g in magnetosomes of magnetotactic bacteria or in nanostructured materials responsible for the colours of butterfly wings. Due to the huge progress in technology as well as in analysis and characterisation tools nanomaterials and nanotechnology are becoming more and more present in a broad range of applications e.g. in computer chips, LEDs and laser diodes, sun protecting cream etc. The lecture will give a short overview about physical and chemical effects occurring in nanoscaled materials, introduces methods to prepare and analyse nanomaterials and will show examples for applications of nanostructured materials.
