Interactive visualization

Interactive visualization systems that create a three-dimensional impression for the viewer are increasingly used for both technical and multimedia applications, because the “third and fourth dimension” offer completely new possibilities. For example, morphological information from medical image data can be represented in plastic together with 3D models of organs, or results of data mining can be illustrated and analyzed in an interactive way. For projects from the multimedia field, it is possible to immerse viewers in virtual worlds and research new interaction methods that can be grasped quickly and intuitively.

Hardware

To familiarize students with the functionality and usage possibilities of 3D visualization in the context of exercises and practical training, a corresponding system consisting of the following components has been set up:

Active stereo projection module, resolution 1400x1050, rear projection screen 300x225 cm, shutter glasses.
Optical tracking system with four cameras (6 degrees of freedom).
Powerful computers for real-time data analysis and control of the system.
Software for creating interactive virtual worlds (WorldViz).
Stereo monitors for the Graphic and Image Processing laboratory (M2.02).
A magnetic desktop tracking system for M2.02.
