The Computer Engineering degree program has been on offer at Augsburg UAS since winter semester 2006/07. This interdisciplinary course is taught by the Faculties of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. The practical training takes place in the laboratories of the two faculties, and is supplemented by an internship in industry in the 6th semester of the course. Due to the wide variety of electives on offer, students are able to tailor their studies to their own interests.
The course comprises a total of seven semesters, consisting of a two-semester foundation course followed by the main course, lasting five semesters. During the first two semesters, students will be given a good grounding in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering and computer science. The main course consists of four academic semesters and one practical semester. During this practical semester, students work on a project that makes practical use of the knowledge they have gained, as well as learning how to work independently on an engineering project in industry. The industry internship is supplemented by accompanying courses at the university.
During the main part of the course, the students gain a more in-depth knowledge of their subject, as well as improving their skills in other related fields. They can choose their areas of specialization from the wide range of electives on offer. There is the option of focusing on computer science, electrical engineering, or both.
Exchanges with the university’s partner institutions in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia promote international networking, both for students and teaching staff. Augsburg UAS is a strong supporter of stays abroad for its students and participates in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which has greatly simplified the recognition of academic achievements at different institutions. The overview of subjects and hours of study contains information about the number of credit hours for different courses, as well as the number of credits and the level achieved as set down in ECTS. This enables the comparison of achievements on an international level.
This degree program is normally completed after seven semesters with the degree of Bachelor of Engineering. Students graduating with a particularly good degree can go on to attain a Master of Science degree from the Faculty of Computer Science.
