LaTeX template in Gitlab
In our Gitlab you will find a LaTeX template for creating theses.
Please note that our Gitlab is only accessible via the university network or an activated VPN!↗
You can register for the IN, WI, IIS, TI, SE, MIN, BIS and ITPM degree programs via the document management system d3 (DMS). (Only accessible from the university network or via VPN!) Instructions and help for use can be found here.
All information on registration and guidelines for final theses can be found in the information sheet: Guidelines for final theses.
Students on the IAM and IMS media degree programs can obtain the admission form from the Faculty of Design office and hand it in there. Further information can be found on the pages of the Faculty of Design under Everyday Student Life - Thesis.
The deadlines for all theses to be completed at the Faculty of Computer Science (Bachelor thesis, Master thesis) can be found on the page Dates for the current semester.
You can find the deadlines for registering theses in the IAM and IMS degree programs on the Faculty of Design website via Calendar.
Different processing times apply to the final theses:
Bachelor 4 months (for SE 8 months)
Master 5-6 months (depending on the degree program)
Any necessary extension can only be granted if there are reasons for which the student is not responsible.
The request for an extension for the IN, WI, IIS, TI, SE, MIN, BIS and ITPM degree programs must be submitted online via the document management system d3 (DMS), provided that the original application was also submitted via the DMS.
Instructions and videos on how to apply can be found here.
A request for an extension must be submitted to the examination board at least 14 days before the deadline, stating the reasons and submitting appropriate evidence (certificates, attestations, etc.). The examiner must accept this application. The application must state how many months are required as an extension period.
The following files contain a template for MS Word, as well as a PDF file with the necessary wording to testify that the thesis is written by the author himself.
Generaly it is recommended to use LaTeX for preparing the thesis.
The modalities of the bachelor seminar have changed as of the summer semester 2018. All students of the IN/TI/WI degree programs whose bachelor thesis was or will be issued after March 15, 2018 are affected by this change.
(ATTENTION: Different requirements apply for students in SE!)
For the bachelor seminar you must attend two bachelor seminars as a listener and on a further date you have to present your thesis. Your thesis will only be reported to the Examination Office once the above conditions have been met.
Further information as well as the currently available and already reserved presentation dates can be found in Moodle at
Fakultät Informatik->Studiengangsübergreifend->Semesterübergreifend->Bachelorseminar
It is strongly recommended for bachelor students to enroll in the course in order to receive short-term notifications. The allocation of presentation dates (approx. 2 weeks in advance) will be coordinated with your first examiner. For bachelor theses that are externally linked to company cooperations, you can also give your lecture/presentation at the company. Participation in two bachelor seminar dates remains unaffected by this regulation and is binding for everyone.
Each bachelor seminar lasts 90 minutes and includes three presentation slots. The duration of your presentation should be approx. 20 minutes to allow room for questions and discussion afterwards. Seminar dates are mostly scheduled for Thursday afternoons. Please note that there are no bachelor seminars during the semester break! Your presentation does not have to be a final presentation and can also refer to research questions and interim results! Plan your presentation preferably in the period 4-12 weeks after the issue of the bachelor thesis in order not to fall behind schedule!
Good luck with your bachelor thesis!
