The coursework in the Master of Applied Research (MAPR) consist of project-related application-oriented research to an above-average part. He is therefore also referred to as a research master or as a project master. The course is divided into research modules, compulsory elective modules and cross-university block courses, which are described in more detail below.
Research modules
With admission, a research topic is assigned to fresh students to a research topic, to which the contents of the entire degree programme are based. To develop the research topic, three scientific works based on the content of each other, one of them in English, must be prepared:
Specialist semester | Module | Title | Abbreviation | ECTS |
---|
1. | 3.1 | Project work 1 | PA 1 | 12 |
2. | 4.1 | Project work 2 | PA 1 | 12 |
3. | 5.1 | Master's thesis | MA | 28 |
There are 2 platforms for the scientific exchange of MAPR students:
- Our MAPR seminar takes place annually towards the end of the winter semester. All MAPR students of the HSA are participants.
- The Applied Research Conference (ARC) takes place annually towards the end of the summer semester. All MAPR students of the partner universities who alternate with the ARC are held. The HSA most recently hosted the ARC 2016 with 220 participants.
This means that 2 MAPR seminars and an ARC attendance at the start of their studies in the winter semester, a MAPR seminar and 2 ARCs fall into the standard period of study when they start their studies. The participations will be credited to the following modules in the order of their occurrence:
Specialist semester | Module | Title | Abbreviation | ECTS |
---|
1. | 3.2 | Project seminar 1 | PS 1 | 2 |
2. | 4.2 | Project seminar 2 | PS 1 | 2 |
3. | 5.2 | Master seminar | MS | 2 |
A scientific article in English has to be submitted to the ARC during the course, which will be published in the conference proceedings of the ARC. This falls on the 2. Study semester at the beginning of studies in the winter semester, or on the 3. Study semester at the beginning of studies in the summer semester.
Elective courses
MAPR students are generally available to all courses of other master's degree programmes (in both university and external). The selection is based on the research topic, is determined with admission to the study programme and is then binding. In the category, a total of 15 ECTS credits and an interdisciplinary 5 ECTS are to be taken in the category:
Module | Title | Abbreviation | ECTS |
1.1 - 1.3 | Subject-specific elective modules 1 - 3 | FWPF 1-3 | 15 |
2.1 | Interdisciplinary elective module 1 | IWPF 1 | 5 5 |
The assignment to the study semesters is arbitrary. If the course offering requires this, e.g. all compulsory elective modules in a single semester. To compensate, the PA 1 and PA 2 research modules could then be moved to the other semester.
Cross-level block courses (HÜ)
With inter-university courses, the courses are expanded to include the content of the partner universities. The courses are offered as block events with 2 days (2 ECTS) or occasionally 4 attendance days (4 ECTS). The evaluation is usually based on a seminar paper submitted. In the category subject-specific and interdisciplinary, a total of 6 ECTS credits have to be taken:
Module | Title | Abbreviation | ECTS |
1.4 | Subject-specific HÜ module | FWPF 4 | 6 6 |
2.2 | Interdisciplinary HÜ module (research methods and strategies) | IWPF 2 (FM&S) | 6 6 |
The assignment to the study semesters is arbitrary. The nationwide course offer of one semester will be sent by e-mail to all MAPR students at the end of the previous semester. You can find a link to the module descriptions of all HÜ courses offered in the current semester in the download area. The Technical University of Applied Sciences Ausburgparticipates in the overall offer with the following courses:
