This Bachelor program in Electrical Engineering takes 7 semesters to complete and is divided into two parts: a one-semester foundation and orientation course and five semesters of in -depth studies, which includes an industrial placement lasting one semester.

The orientation phase is intended to teach you the basics of Electrical Engineering and Informatics. Mathematics and Physics lay the foundations for success.

The final in-depth phase begins in the third semester in which the content remains identical for all students. From the fourth semester onwards, you can choose from one the following specialization areas, where the knowledge of both electrical engineering and interdisciplinary skills are built upon: Information and Communication Technology or Automation and Energy Technology.

During the industrial placement, you have the opportunity to use your knowledge to work on projects, while also attending lectures at the university alongside your independent engineering work in industry.

The bachelor thesis allows you to work independently on a project and many students use the opportunity to work on a real life industry project.

After successfully completing the course, many possibilities are open to you. One is the Master course in Mechatronic Systems, which is run in collaboration with Ulster University (Northern Ireland).

The course content is as varied as the job profile of an electrical engineer. It ranges from the development of electrical devices to the variety in systems projects, planning and fitting as well as the putting into operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems. Additional responsibilities of an electrical engineer are project development, project management as well as monitoring and control of such systems together with hardware and software development. In short, as a prospective electrical engineer, you have a broad field of work and excellent job prospects in diverse areas, including Information and Communication Technology, Automation and Energy Technology, Medical Engineering, Entertainment Electronics etc.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering supports their students to spend some time in another country. Students may choose to study a semester at another university, complete a project or their industrial internship in a foreign country or go abroad for their final thesis.

The Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication (Zentrum für Sprachen und interkulturelle Kommunikation, ZSI) offers a range of courses to improve the students’ intercultural skills and awareness.
