Accreditation
Short version
The accreditation of a degree programme is a prerequisite for the granting of a permit
- an institution or substantial change of a degree programme at a state university
- the recognition of a degree programme at a non-state university by the State Ministry.
Description
According to the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), every university in Bavaria is to accredit its degree programmes. This is to be done as one of the measures of quality assurance by a recognised institution. The Foundation for the Accreditation of Courses in Germany (Accreditation Council) is taking on this task in Bavaria. This has set itself the task of contributing to the development of the quality of study and teaching in Germany.
For existing bachelor and master models, the approval or the recognition is normally based on 5 or. 6 years limited. Successful accreditation must be demonstrated in a recent mold period before this period expires.
The deadline is usually shorter for study programmes that are newly established. However, pre-accreditation is usually required here.
System-accredited university
The university introduced system accreditation between 2018 and 2021. In this context, we developed our own quality management system (QMS) to secure and further develop our degree programmes. Upon completion of the introduction process, the university is able to accredit its own courses of study according to the legal requirements. We were accompanied in the process by the evaluation agency Evalag and outstanding experts from other universities. At the end of the summer semester 2021, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg is a system-accredited university. System accreditation is valid until 30. September 2027.
