Creature design and modeling based on the reinterpretation of chess as a battleground of mythical forces

This bachelor thesis is all about character design. Based on the six different chess figures (Pawn, Bishop, Knight, Rook, Queen, King) two redesigned 3D models are created for each one, transforming them into something completly new, while keeping the key aspects of their appearance and function. Given that chess has two competing sides , two different styles had to be conceptualized. The themes I chose for the two fractions are nature against machines. The King is the only figure that embodies both themes and combines the high technology of a sci-fi mech with the wild and beautiful chaos of nature. The result will be a total of eleven highly detailed figures filling the chess board with engaging poses, providing the exciting atmosphere of a battlefield. The workflow of character design includes the initial concept art, modeling, rendering and editing. The figures are modeled furthermost for static purposes.
