Coincidence and security

Jan 17, 2018

Security in information technology is the dominant topic of our time and encryption has become the norm in many areas. In order to be able to design cryptographic processes and applications securely, real random numbers are of fundamental importance, e.g. in the generation of cryptographic keys.

The application is a virtual reality (VR) simulation in which the assembly of a KUKA robot can be trained with the help of VR glasses and a VibroTac wristband. Objects can be gripped, positioned and assembled in a virtual assembly cell. The wristband generates perceptible (haptic) feedback. Training software was developed for this purpose as part of the project. In this way, the assembly process can be analysed and optimised. Similarly, 'beginner's mistakes' can be avoided and risks reduced if the assembly is practised in a simulation before it is actually carried out. The project was carried out in co-operation with the company KUKA Roboter GmbH. It was successfully continued in the winter semester 2017/18 and is to be expanded to include the aspect of avatars in virtual reality in the coming summer semester 2018.

Systematic Comparison of Arm and Hand Gestures

Jan 1, 2017 - Dec 31, 2018

Physical exertion has been extensively investigated in recent research on gestural interaction. It has been shown that users perceive gestures as more convenient if they are easier to perform in terms of effort. Our research question is how screen size affects user perception about the effort of a gesture. Different gestures have been looked at. In a user study 45 subjects interacted with a game prototype with three different gesture pairs in front of two different screen sizes.

Facade-integrated bioreactor systems

Jan 1, 2015 - Dec 31, 2018

Both active and valuable substances can be extracted from algae for a wide range of applications in industry. For the cultivation of microalgae, façade-integrated photobioreactors were developed, which avoid the consumption of arable land.

This avoids the so-called plate-tank problem. The aerosol-based reactor enables the cultivation of terrestrial algae and therefore differs significantly from previous aquatic photobioreactors. A 1:1 prototype was set up at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences as part of a joint research project funded by the BMBF.
