Detex is honoured at the THA's Computer Science Project Day
detex 2.0 wins 2nd prize for the best semester project
The Computer Science Project Day took place on 17 January 2024, at which 18 semester projects in the fields of artificial intelligence, hardware, data science, IT security, games and media as well as web applications and apps were presented. The participating teams presented a variety of innovative IT solutions for different areas of application, some of which were developed in collaboration with practice partners and others during the students' time abroad.
The "detex 2.0" project won 2nd place. It aims to support the sorting process in the recycling of textiles. Using artificial intelligence and high-resolution cameras, important features of items of clothing are recorded and categorised. The team has optimised the classification of garments across nine classes and improved contaminant detection through individual labelling and training of a YOLO model. Significant improvements were achieved with the transition to the YOLOv8 algorithm and the expansion of impurity detection. The training of the models was carried out using over 50,000 images of garments, which were generated almost realistically.
