Project description

Easy entry into the world of IT security?

No problem! Our motivation for this semester project was to develop a practical game that deals with the topic of network security. In addition to its illustrative features, the game is also easy to understand and should inspire both first-year students and pupils.

Why IT security in particular?

IT security has played an increasingly important role in our society in recent years. Nowadays, it is not only large companies and authorities that pay attention to their data, but also private individuals who are afraid of cyber attacks. For us as computer science students, this project was a good opportunity to familiarise ourselves intensively with the topic of IT security.

Protecting information and having fun at the same time?

The game focusses on the player protecting information and his IT system. He tries to find security gaps that an attacker exploits to damage the system. The game supports the player with a sophisticated help system as the fun of the game should be the top priority. The game scenario is a DMZ network consisting of a web shop, a firewall, the Internet, the intranet and the player.

Main tasks:

  • Conception of an exciting game principle
  • Development of a network architecture as the basis for the game
  • Development of network participants to create a realistic scenario (web server, file server, dummy clients, etc.)
  • Development of security components in the network that can be influenced by the players (e.g. firewalls, IDS, IPS, etc.)
