Residence and registration obligations
IMPORTANT
Students who are not from EU countries usually register via the Hochschulbetreuungsstelle (university support office) in Augsburg. The waiting times there are currently very long. We, therefore, advise you to make an appointment already, even if you are still abroad. Alternatively, you can also make an appointment at the Foreigners' Registration Office in Augsburg: https://www.augsburg.de/buergerservice-rathaus/buergerservice/aemter-behoerden/staedtische-dienststellen/b/buergeramt/auslaenderbehoerde.
Please remember: You can only open a bank account after registering with the city. If you get a late appointment, you will have delayed access to your money and cannot make essential payments (especially rent, food, etc.). Therefore, we strongly recommend that you bring enough cash with you so that you can manage without a bank account for at least 2 months.
