Registration with the city
Once you move to Germany, remember your reporting obligation. That means, that you have to register with the (Foreign) Registration Office at your new place of residence. A change of registration is also necessary when moving within Germany. The reporting obligation applies to everyone, regardless of whether someone lives long-term or temporarily (e.g. during their studies) in Germany.
The registration must be made in person no later than 14 days after moving into the new accommodation. Your home address will be registered and you will receive a registration confirmation from the city. You will need this certificate, among other things, to open a bank account. There are no fees for registration.
You need the following documents to register with the city:
- Passport or ID card
- Letter of admission or certificate of enrollment at University of Applied Sciences Augsburg
- “Wohnungsgeberbestätigung” (confirmation of landlord) must be completed and signed
If you have the European nationality or of a country of the European Economic Area, please register at a “Bürgerbüro” (citizens’ office) of the city of Augsburg (Stadtmitte, Haunstetten, Kriegshaber or Hochzoll).
If you are from a Non-European country, register at the “Hochschulbetreuungsstelle” (Foreign registration office).
