Michael Finkel graduated from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 1995, received his Ph.D. from the TUM in 2003, and his MBA from Henley Management College in 2006. From 1995 to 1998, he worked as a test engineer at Siemens' high-voltage test field in Berlin. After completing his doctorate, he worked for a year at Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen in Regensburg and from 2004 to 2007 at SWM Infrastruktur GmbH, the network operator of the city of Munich. Since 2007, he has been Professor of High Voltage and Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Augsburg. His current research focuses on local island grid supply with decentralized generation plants, the integration of e-mobility and heat pumps into the distribution grid, and the use of AI to plan and operate distribution grids. Since 2008 he has been a member of IEEE, Cigre and VDE.
