How long should the initial internship last?
The duration of the initial internship ranges from 6 to 12 weeks depending on the degree program. You can find more detailed information here:
I have completed a vocational training program. Am I therefore exempt from this initial internship requirement?
Yes, this may well be the case. It depends, however, on the skilled occupation in question and the degree program you would like to follow. We have pulled together more detailed information on this in our guidelines and in the directory of skilled occupations.

Application as a foreign national
I am a foreign national, am I subject to specific regulations for this reason?
Foreign and stateless university applicants who are not citizens of a member state of the European Union (EU) and who did not obtain their university entrance qualification (Abitur) in Germany are considered to be foreign nationals. EU nationals are subject to the same admission regulations as German applicants, as are non-EU nationals who obtained their university entrance qualification in Germany.
Please refer to our guides for bachelor and master applicants from abroad:
What must be taken into consideration when it comes to foreign certificates?
If you did not acquire your proof of prior education (certificate, degree) in Germany, you must submit this to
University of Applied Sciences Augsburg
c/o uni-assist. e.V.
D-11507 Berlin
[Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript]
for examination/authentication.
In addition to this preliminary review documentation, you are required to apply to have a grade point average established. If a grade point average is not disclosed, the application will go through the selection procedure with the worst possible average grade (4.5). You will find the application form on the webpage of the Office of Academic Affairs at the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg.
It is essential that you take the subject options on your certificate accreditation or preliminary review documentation into consideration. If may be the case that your options are restricted to certain fields of study or even to certain degree programs. For example, if your subject options are restricted to business management courses, then you cannot gain admission to technical degree programs (Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science etc.). Our guide for applicants with a university entrance qualification gained abroad provides you with detailed information on the application procedure:
Prospective students from the People’s Republic of China, Vietnam and Mongolia must also submit the APS certificate from the academic test centre to uni-assist as part of the preliminary review documentation in addition to the proof of prior education abroad.

Please note that you alone are responsible for submitting your application documents on time. It is the date the documents are received by the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg which is decisive, not the date on the postmark!
How can I tell if documents are missing from my application?
Any missing documents are listed on the online applicant portal of the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg as soon as the application has been processed.
Further questions about the application
How can I submit a hardship application?
Exceptional hardship exists if specific social or family-related issues directly impacting on the individual make it absolutely essential that he/she start his/her program of study without delay; i.e. if it is unreasonable to delay this even by one semester, based on the reasons presented by the individual (e.g. due to an illness).
The hardship application constitutes an informal, written application and the medical certificates or evidence that justify the case of hardship. All documentation must be enclosed with the application. Hardship cases are subject to a strict process of approval and are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Please refer to our infosheet for further details:
How is the waiting time calculated?
All semesters that pass between the date you obtain your higher education entrance qualification and the date you start your degree program at a German university of applied sciences count towards the waiting time. Periods of study at German universities of applied sciences are detrimental to the waiting time, i.e. these periods are not taken into account when calculating the waiting time. Moreover, only full semesters can be taken into account. The waiting time is calculated automatically and is not subject to a specific application process.
Please refer to our infosheet for further details:
Do I have the opportunity to improve my grade point average?
The grade point average is an important selection criterion when allocating study places. With this in mind, impairments that hindered your efforts to secure a better grade point average when you attained your higher education entrance qualification must be compensated. If you are able to present evidence to back up relevant reasons and their effects, you may, under certain circumstances, be able to take part in the allocation procedure with an improved grade point average.
By submitting an informal, written application to improve your grade point average you can bring circumstances that prevented you from achieving a better grade point average or attaining your higher education entrance qualification earlier to bear.
To improve your grade or waiting time, please submit a school report from the school that awarded the higher education entrance qualification to the Student Office by 27th July. You may also be required to submit a medical certificate.
Please refer to our infosheet for further details:
What is meant by the special quota for individuals who are in the public interest?
There is a special admission quota for people who are in the public interest and, as such, are deserving of special consideration or support. This circle of individuals includes competitive athletes and up-and-coming athletes who are dependent on the training facilities on site and individuals who do voluntary work such as fire service personnel.
Please refer to our infosheet for further details:
How do I submit an application for preferential admission?
You can submit an application for preferential admission if you were granted admission to the same degree program previously but you could not take up the study place due to a national service requirement (e.g. military or civil service or a voluntary social or ecological year) or, in the context of a combined degree program, you had to begin your vocational training.
In this case, please upload the admission notice from the previous year and, where applicable, the relevant evidence together with your application documentation online.
I passed the assessment test during a previous application process. Do I have to sit this test again?
No, usually it is not necessary to sit the test twice. Together with your application, please submit the notification from the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg that you have already passed the test and, in the case of degree programs in which preselection is carried out, the invitation to the assessment test issued at that time. It is not typically necessary to resubmit portfolios or work samples. However, if you are indeed required to sit the assessment test again, we will contact you.

Re-registration
Re-registration when changing from Bachelor to Master
I am currently still a Bachelor student at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and have applied for a Master's degree at the same university. Do I have to re-register as a Bachelor graduate, even if I want to start a Master's programme in the coming semester?
It is recommended to re-register for the Bachelor's programme, especially if you are not sure whether your Bachelor's programme will really be completed by the deadlines 14 March or 30 September.
If you receive an admission for your desired Master's programme, you will enrol in the new programme at the same time. You do not have to pay the semester fee, the contribution for the Studentenwerk and the contribution for the semester ticket twice.
