Information on access control for buildings and spaces

The data centre operates a special system on behalf of the university, which provides so-called access control or access control, in order to enable authorised persons to access the buildings, rooms, including the computers in it, as well as the parking spaces. In addition to protecting the facilities in the rooms against theft or unauthorised use, this access control also serves to facilitate access to the rooms, the exterior doors and the barriers, without having to handle a certain number of key awarding administration. In addition, the access of the persons entitled to be recorded anonymously in order to be able to track any misuse.

The following rooms, buildings and barriers are connected to the access control:

  • Computer rooms / laboratories / lecture halls / seminar rooms:
    • Data center: H-Bau 2nd floor
    • Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering: C-Bau
    • Faculty of Electrical Engineering: A- and E-Bau
    • Faculty of Architecture: K-, L- und- M-Bau
    • Faculty of Computer Science: J-, M- and W-Bau
    • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering: D- and F-Bau
    • Faculty of Business: W-Bau
    • ITW and IBI : H2 Construction
    • Multi-purpose room: H2-building

In principle, access is only possible for all other rooms by members of the respective faculty or with special entitlements. For special authorizations please contact:

How it works

The controlled doors are normally closed, but can be opened with a Campus Card Augsburg registered in the access control. For more information about the Campus Card Augsburg (functions, purchase, etc.), please click here.

The following personalised map types of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences are automatically registered in the access control:

  • Student ID card
  • Employee ID card
  • Library card
  • Parking permit

The unpersonalized "guest-esser cards", which can be obtained at the machines of the Studentenwerk (Mensa, cafeteria), cannot be registered in the entry control

Next to the controlled doors there is a card reader on the wall. It lies at roughly the same height as the door handle, but not necessarily by side, but sometimes also on the opposite side of the door. The reader is light grey. They recognize it by a bright yellow control amp (LED). Just hold the map nearby and wait for a reaction. Then take the card back from the reader. You can even leave the card in a pocket and hold it to the reader. However, you must note that there is no other card, which also works according to the RFID principle, in the pocket (e.g. new ID card with RFID chip). To achieve a long functionality of your card, you should never bend or bend your card.

At the card readers, only the yellow lamp usually lights up in circular shape. At the door opening, a short beep ('Piep') sounds and the green lamp in the shape of a check mark lights up. Within four seconds you can open the door now. If you do not have access to access, a long tone will sound and the red lamp appears in the shape of an X. If you want to leave a room and enter it again after a while, the door opener seems to react not at first, but only when the chip card is held to the reader a second time. A longer beep sounds and the green and red lamps light up at the same time.

The 'former' opening of a controlled door means that you register at the room. This is logged in the access control system, so that it is 'known' at any time who is in which room or has been located. Of course, this is difficult to achieve or last in practice. That is why we rely on your help and your self-interest.

First of all, you should log out of the room if possible! Since we have only one reader per door (due to the cost), we simply assume that a 'second' reading of your card at the same door is your deregistration from the room. Therefore, the door opener is not needed in this case. The inconvenience of two reading of the card when re-enacting the room (e.g. after taking toilet) we have to accept. But if - which should not be - the door is open, you do not need a card. You are logged in to the room and you do not have to register for a short time.

For longer absence from space, e.g. for lunch in the canteen, but you should register properly and register again. If something unauthorized occurs in your absence in the room, you could otherwise mistakenly close your presence. It is e.g. happened that university services have gone into our computer rooms and drove 'abuse' with the computers. This is also the reason why the computer doors should be closed in principle.

By the way, you can save yourself the cancellation if you go to another controlled room. Then you automatically report the system to log in there. It is important to us: please be suspicious if someone does not log in to a room with a map!

In order to 'promote' the correct login procedure ('Login') on the computers in the computer rooms, the login procedure ('Login') is extended. If you want to log in to Windows or Solaris, not only will your permission (identification, password) be checked, but also whether you are logged in to the room. If this is not the case, the registration on the computer is canceled without comment.

Policies

As a member of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, you can obtain a Campus Card Augsburg, which is registered in the access control. This gives you access, among other things, to the computer rooms of the data center and the computers located there, as well as to the library, at their opening hours. Depending on your degree programme or You will also receive access to certain rooms in the buildings of your faculty, to entrance doors and barriers to your faculty.

This smart card has the function of a key. It may only be used by you and only as intended. In particular, you may not pass on the chip card to others or provide others with access. Your access to buildings, rooms and computers will be recorded anonymously (chip card number). In this context, Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg expressly points out that in cases of misuse, damage, theft, etc. Your presence can be traced in the spaces in question and at the times in question. In the event of improper use of the chip card, in particular in the event of a transfer of the chip card to third parties, the HSA may exercise its household rights and restrict or withdraw its access authorisations in size and/or time.

The chip card thus replaces a key, but does not replace any of the conditions under which you can use the rooms as well as the computers and devices in it. In the premises of the data center and so-called open laboratories, the computers and printers may be used, but only in accordance with the guidelines for the use of the IT infrastructure of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg.

You only get access to so-called closed laboratories in certain cases, namely for project and final work or similar. You may only use the computers and devices that are expressly intended for your work. The respective safety regulations must be observed in any case.
