Event: Problematising Education and Digital Technology (21 February 2025)
The event will focus on the following key questions:
1. What are the urgent issues, concerns, tensions and problems related to EdTech in our society? What questions do we need to ask and what approaches will help us to investigate these questions?
2. What negative social impacts do we see in connection with digital technology and education?
3. What is the political economy of EdTech in our society? What are local EdTech markets? How do global Big Tech companies manifest in local education systems? What is the EdTech policy and which actors drive policy making? What do we find when we ‘follow the money’?
4. What reasons for hope are there? Are there local examples of digital technology leading to real social benefits and empowerment? What local counter-reactions and resistance to inappropriate forms of EdTech can be seen? What alternative ideas about education and the digital future are being disseminated?
