Quartus on 64 Bit Linux
VMWare setup
Install virtual Debian system from debian-7.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso.
Minimal installation
In the install process you have only selected
- SSH server
You have created user “root” and user “fritz”. Login as root.
apt-get install sudo adduser fritz sudo exit
The login as user “fritz” and continue below
Desktop installation
Login as “fritz”. Open a terminal. Login as superuser root.
su adduser fritz sudo exit
VMWare Tools
Mount the vmware tools CDROM iso Virtuelle Maschine→VMWare Tools neu installieren
Manual mount of the CDROM for the minimal system:
sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
cd /media/cdrom cp VMwareTools-9.2.2-893683.tar.gz /tmp cd /tmp tar -xvzf VMwareTools-9.2.2-893683.tar.gz cd vmware-tools-distrib sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-amd64 sudo ./vmware-install.pl --clobber-kernel-modules=vmhgfs,vmxnet,vmblock,vmci,vsock,vmxnet3,pvscsi,vmmemctl
Install 32Bit Libraries
Quartus and Modelsim require 32Bit Libraries which are not installed by default.
Enable multiple architectures (32 Bit / 64 Bit)
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt-get update
Install the 32Bit libraries
sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libpng12-0:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libsm6:i386 libxrender1:i386 libfontconfig1:i386 libxext6:i386 libxft2:i386 libncurses5:i386
Now continue with the Quartus installation
