Design is more than simply designing items – from brochures and websites to chairs and sneakers. Design entails the shaping of social change processes, new life models and cultural practices. This is the focus of the Transformation Design Master program. This study program enables students to independently identify, reflect on and articulate socially relevant topics as designers. It will motivate you to come up with innovative solutions for social transformation, to implement them in design and to communicate them.
By connecting academic, analytic thinking with genuine aesthetic and experimental forms of cognition, you will learn to understand the complexity of modern society and reach differentiated, well-founded judgements and problem solutions.
In our Master program, we stand for and convey a problem-oriented, contextual, transdisciplinary and socially relevant understanding of design. We wish to support you in becoming a confident and reflective designer who wants to contribute to shaping the transformation of our society – in line with ecological, social and economic sustainability.
The study program consists of three sets of modules. In "Methods & Tools", you acquire a methodological framework both in practical, experimental workshops and in theoretical subjects (e.g. Change Management, Agile Management, Design Thinking, Service Design). The core lessons in "Design & Transformation" are practical, design project seminars whose alternating topics are explored in depth in corresponding theory modules and experience labs. The focus of "Research & Supervision" is your personal Master theses. You will work on a topic for your thesis in the first semester and complete your Master thesis on this subject in the third semester.
