With your user ID, a separate file directory has automatically been set up for you on our central server. You can store your private data there and retrieve it from various computers.

Storage space
Please use the storage space provided sparingly and delete unnecessary files regularly. There is currently no limit to the maximum amount of storage space, but in the interests of all users you should only store files that you really need.

sftp and ssh
You can access your directory from any computer connected to the Internet using the SFTP/SCP/SSH protocols. To do this, start a corresponding program on your computer and then establish a connection to the server address: login.rz.hs-augsburg.de. After authentication with your personal IT center ID, you will have access to your files.

Note
Establishing a connection to the server: login.rz.hs-augsburg.de via the unencrypted FTP is not/no longer possible for security reasons.

Windows systems
On computers that use MS Windows and require the central user ID to log in, the user directory is automatically accessible (usually as drive Z:).

If no or a different login is required on the computer, the drive can be accessed by selecting "Connect network drive in Windows Explorer" under "Extra" and specifying :
\\rzhome.hs-augsburg.de\username (e.g. \\rzhome.hs-augsburg.de\test) (see also note below) under "Folder". Please enter your login (user name) in the form: [Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript] (e.g. [Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript]).

Please note
From outside our university network, you must first establish a VPN connection before you can connect to the network drive. Please also note that various firewalls block the connection to a network drive by default, so configure your firewall accordingly.

Unix/macOS systems
On most computers at the HSA that use the Solaris or Linux operating system, the central user directory is automatically available after logging in. This also applies to the majority of macOS systems.

You can mount your directory as a network drive under macOS as follows:

  • In the menu bar (of the Finder), click on "Go to" and then on "Connect to server...".
  • Enter the server address accordingly and connect: smb://rzhome.hs-augsburg.de/username (e.g. smb://rzhome.hs-augsburg.de/test)
  • Please enter your login (user name) in the form: [Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript] (e.g. [Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript]).

Please note
From outside our university network, you must first establish a VPN connection before you can connect to the network drive. Please also note that various firewalls block the connection to a network drive by default, so please configure your firewall accordingly.

Data backup
User data is backed up daily at 8 pm.This data is archived for 30 days. In addition, weekly backups (key day: Sunday) are available for a period of 3 months.

You have the option of accessing this data yourself and restoring older versions or deleted files if necessary.

In Windows, select the Properties option for a file or directory in Explorer after clicking with the left mouse button. Under Previous versions, you have access to the saved history and can copy old files or versions back into your current directory.

If you are using Unix or macOS, there is a hidden subdirectory in your directory with the name .snapshot. If you change to this directory, you will also have access to the existing backups. If you do not want to access it via the terminal with macOS, but via the Finder, select "Go to" and then "Go to folder...". Enter "/rzhome/.snapshot" there. You will then see a list of all available snapshots and can click through to your directory.
