Scholarships of the International Office
The International Office offers a wide range of scholarships.
The scholarships offered by the International Office are aimed at foreign students who obtained their university entrance qualification in another country and do not have German citizenship.

Scholarships for international students in winter semester 2024/25 (WS 2024/25)
The International Office (IO) Office of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) awards (retroactive to September 2024) scholarships to international students, primarily from non-EU countries, who wish to complete complete their entire study program at the THA.
The scholarships are financed by funds from
- The Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Art (BMWK)
- The Foreign Office, in the context of the scholarship and support program STIBET of the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst)
- au.st e.V., the association for support of foreign students in Augsburg - also in cooperation with the Stadtsparkasse Augsburg bank)
Scholarship types
- Partial scholarships (BMWK) to the value of max. €992 monthly for the duration of max. 3 months
- One-off study grants (BMWK) of at least €250
- two scholarships for more equal opportunities (STIBET) to the value of €250 monthly for the duration of 4 months for students with special challenges during their studies (e.g. special care situations for children or relatives in need of care, disability of at least 50%, refugee background, etc.)
- one scholarships to particularly dedicated international students (STIBET) to the value of €250.00 monthly for the duration of 4 months
- one partial scholarship (f.au.st e.V.) to the value of €467 monthly for the duration of 6 months
The selection committee decides on the type and payment amount of the scholarship, with consideration of the respective scholarship criteria.
Eligible applicants are enrolled foreign students[1]
- who are registered at the THA until at least the end of WS 2024/25 and are actually resident there (i.e. in Augsburg) for study purposes
- who are in need. This means that their period of study cannot be financed either by their own funds or by funds from third parties (e.g. payments from parents, other scholarships, etc.).
Attention! Scholarships for more equal opportunities (STIBET) can be awarded to THA students from the first semester onwards. All other scholarships are aimed at students who are at least in their second Master's semester or third Bachelor's semester in WS 2024/25.

- Competence
- Personal qualification
- Registration at the THA
- face special challenges during their studies (proof must be provided)
- Need (evidence of this must be submitted)
Where academic achievements are comparable, preference will be given to students who have not yet received any funding from the THA at the time of the application.

Applications are submitted exclusively via the electronic scholarship management system

Application documents:
To submit your application online, the following documents are required:
- Letter with justification of the application for funding Please explain your motivation for your application - Why should you be selected for the scholarship (special achievements, experience, commitment etc.) ?
- Resumé with photo
- Recent reference (no older than three months) from a lecturer in the major field of study. Please contact a professor in your major department about the evaluation as soon as possible. For this purpose, download the form "Gutachten" and forward it to the university lecturer. The completed and signed expert opinion will be sent from the professor to the International Office bevor the application deadline by email.
- Residence permit
- Current grade sheet and, in the case of Master's students, a copy of the Bachelor's degree certificate with final grade, if applicable
- Certificate of enrollment for the current semester
- Certificate of marriage if married, birth certificates for children, if any
- If available: Evidence of community involvement at and outside of the THA
- If available: Proof of special challenges in your studies (disability certificate, certificate of chronic illness, etc.
- Self-Assessment of Income
- Declaration of consent for participation in the application and selection process for the scholarships for international students awarded by THA
Only documentation that is submitted on time and in full is considered!
Selection process:
The THA selection committee decides on the awarding of the scholarships with consideration of the sponsors' funding criteria. It decides on the type and amount of the funding. The selection committee consists of representatives from the IO, and / or the sponsors (e.g. f.au.st e.V.).
Preselection generally takes place based on the documentation. The International Office creates a ranking list. The applicants are ranked taking into consideration the average grade of the coursework and the study progress (average ECTS per semester). In addition, social and and community involvement (especially at the THA) as well as special life situations can be evaluated.
The final selection can be made on the basis of personal interviews. Personal interviews are omitted if it is clear that an individual is the most suitable candidate based on the written documents that have been submitted.
The scholarship is granted depending on the available funds - there is no legal claim to it!
The students are notified of the results by e-mail after the selection process (within 8 weeks after the application deadline).

DAAD Prize (prize from the German Academic Exchange Service)
The DAAD Prize is in the amount of €1000 and is funded by the German Foreign Office.
This prize is awarded once per year to a foreign student in the advanced phase of their Bachelor program (at least 2nd or 3rd year of study) or Master program (at least 2nd semester).
Candidates who have distinguished themselves both in terms of their academic achievements and their remarkable social or intercultural dedication are nominated for the DAAD prize.
The prize is awarded in the context of a special ceremony (Dies Academicus/gP Awards).

Scholarships from the STIBET project funds of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
a) Course completion scholarships
The International Office grants course completion scholarships to international students (with a foreign university entrance qualification), primarily from non-EU countries, who are in the final phase of their studies and will obtain their degree within a maximum of two semesters.
They are announced at least once per semester - usually in March and October each year. In addition to technical and personal aptitude, need also plays a significant part in receiving these scholarships. The duration of the funding is laid out in the current announcement.
For the duration of the funding (maximum 6 months), it is not permissible to receive other German or foreign scholarship funding (regardless of the amount) at the same time.

b) Scholarships for special dedication
The International Office awards scholarships for particularly dedicated international students (with a foreign university entrance qualification) who have achieved good results and also demonstrate outstanding dedication in an international context at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.
They are announced at least once per year - usually October each year. The maximum possible funding is €650 per month. The duration of the funding is laid out in the current announcement.
For the duration of the funding (maximum 6 months), it is not permissible to receive other German or foreign scholarship funding (regardless of the amount) at the same time.

Scholarships for particularly dedicated international students 2021
The International Office of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences (HSA) awards scholarships to particularly dedicated international students from funds of the German Foreign Office, in the context of the scholarship and support program STIBET of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
These scholarships are aimed at foreign students[1] who stand out due to particular social, societal and intercultural commitment (particularly at the HSA).
Amount and duration of scholarships
The scholarship amount is €250 per month for a duration of five months.
Scholarship criteria:
- Competence
- Personal qualification
- Enrollment at the HSA
- Need (evidence of this must be submitted)
This means that the student's period of study cannot be financed either by their own funds or by funds from third parties (e.g. allowances from parents, other scholarships, etc.).
Income in this context refers to all funds that applicants can use for their living expenses, e.g. income from their own employment, allowances from parents, other scholarships, savings, etc.
Application
Applications are submitted exclusively via the electronic scholarship management system (Stipsys). You simply need to create a Stipsys account under:https://stipsys.uni-passau.de/public/index.xhtml. To submit the application online, you need the following documents:
- Letter in which you clearly describe your current social, societal or intercultural commitment
Please explain the motivation for your application:
- Why should you be selected for the scholarship?
- Why are you particularly suitable (special achievements, experience, commitment, perhaps social circumstances, etc.)?
- What would you like to achieve with the help of the scholarship?
- Resumé with photo
- Recent reference (no older than three months) from a lecturer in your major field of study
Please contact a university lecturer from your main field of study in good time in relation to the reference. Download the "Gutachten" (reference) form from this and forward it to the lecturer for this purpose. The lecturer must submit the filled out and signed reference by e-mail to the International Office by the application deadline.

- Evidence of commitment at and outside of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences
- If in gainful employment: Pay slips for the last three months
- Complete bank statements of all existing accounts of the last three months
- Declaration of consent to participate in the application and selection process for scholarships for international students, awarded by the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences
Only documentation that is submitted on time and in full will be considered!
Selection process:
The HSA selection committee decides on the awarding of the scholarships based on the facts and with consideration of the sponsor's funding criteria. The selection committee consists of representatives from the International Office and the departments (in particular, referees). Particularly high-achieving and dedicated students who would be suitable for the scholarship specified above can also be nominated by their referees for the DAAD prize.
The best candidate awarded a scholarship for particularly dedicated students can receive the DAAD prize to the value of €1000 in addition to the scholarship.
The scholarship is granted depending on the available funds - there is no legal claim to it!
The students are notified of the results by e-mail after the selection process (within 3 weeks after the application deadline).
In recognition of dedication in an international context at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, the candidates awarded the scholarships for particularly dedicated students are honored at a University-wide prizegiving ceremony each year.

Grants and scholarships funded by private donors
Every year, the International Office awards grants to students in acute financial need. They are announced at least once per semester - usually in March and October each year. Before applying, you need to participate in an interview at the International Office.

Other scholarship possibilities at the University
a) Corporate scholarships
The corporate scholarships are aimed at advanced students of specific disciplines or faculties and are funded by companies. The funding criteria are also specified by the relevant company.
The University and sponsor decide jointly on awarding the scholarship.
The monthly rate of the scholarship is €300. The scholarship is generally awarded for one year. It is possible to extend the funding until the end of the standard period of study. The scholarship is not dependent on the income of the students or their parents.

b) Deutschlandstipendium
The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship supports gifted and high-achieving students. Further criteria include voluntary and social commitment, international background and special personal achievements.
The monthly rate of the scholarship is €300. The scholarship is generally awarded for one year. It is possible to extend the funding until the end of the standard period of study where evidence of good results is provided.
The scholarship is not dependent on the income of the students or their parents. In addition to students from all semesters and faculties, study applicants can also apply for the scholarship. To do this, they submit their letter of admission and enrollment certificate at a later time.
