Direct doctorate

Since February 2023, technical universities and universities of applied sciences have been able to apply to the Ministry of Science for the right to award doctorates in particularly research-intensive areas on the basis of the new Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act. The applications received will be reviewed by a committee of experts in a science-led process.

With the announcement of the Bavarian Ministry of Science on October 4, 2023, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) is a member of the doctoral center “Digital Technologies and their applications (DigiTech)”.

The “Sustainable intelligent technologies for resource-optimized production (NITRO)" doctoral center was added on 16.07.2024.

This means that young scientists can currently already do their doctorate on these topics directly at the THA.

The DigiTech doctoral centre complements the THA's existing research focus areas:

• Digitalization in production and services
• as well as resource efficiency.
